Foggy

You couldn't even see your hand in front of your face, so thick was this fog. Now, fog was common enough in Cornerbrook, but it typically didn't seep out of the broken windows of an abandoned hospital. This was no ordinary fog, and already I could feel the difference on my skin. Then came the light - green and seemingly coming from everywhere all at once. Where all of this came from and what its purpose was, I still haven't the foggiest.

Down Draft

An ear-splitting screech filled the night, waking Tohl and the others and sending them scrambling for their weapons. The camp was covered in temporary darkness as a huge form flew overhead, blocking the moon. A violent down draft caused by massive wings knocked over two tents and scattered the coals from the fire, and men rushed to stomp the embers out before the dry grass could catch.

"By the Great God, what is it?" Kyram shouted, sword and shield shaking in his hands despite his training.

Discovery

Small crystals embedded in the cavern walls reflected the light from the small lantern, creating a kaleidoscope effect all around the small chamber. All eyes were on the object in the centre of the chamber which, rather than reflecting the light, absorbed it and began to glow.
"This changes everything," Amanda whispered, her voice wavering with a mixture of awe and fear.
     "What is it?" Jorge asked.
     "It's an egg."

On the other hand...

"I know you think you've got the upper hand," the elf continued, "and maybe in some ways you do, but there's one important factor that you need to consider before you make your move."
"And what would that be, mage?" The assassin asked, fingering the hidden blade in his right hand.
"Simply this," the elf replied. "I've got just enough power left in this staff to not only kill you and me, but to level this entire street. And," he added, "I've triggered the spell to go off if I am so much as nicked by that blade of yours."
